Networking Network And More Networking

August 13th, 2010 by mark.farrell

Never having externally advertised our services before both myself and Chris decided it would be fun to attend a local networking event and see what all the fuss was about. We were invited along to a Wired City Event that was only round the corner so was an ideal choice for our first event.

The evening went quite well and we were introduced to a lot of interesting people. With it being our first networking event we were not quite sure what to expect. From my perspective it just seemed like a lot of people in one room trying to sell their services yet nobody really wanted to buy anything.

On the other hand when I looked at it a little differently it was a great opportunity to get our name out there and meet some potential new partners that could maybe enable us to offer services that we wouldn’t normally consider. Flipping that over the same would apply to them with our services.

It was a relatively small event but all in all it was a very enjoyable evening and as stated above we were introduced to a lot of nice people and managed to do a lot of card swapping.

They kept us well fed and watered and to cap the evening off Chris was asked to take part in a video that was being put together for the event. I have included it below just so you call all enjoy Chris’s five seconds of fame as much as I did. Also if you look very closely you will just about catch me in the video stuffing my face with an vegetable samosa whilst networking vigorously:

Web Vitality Hit The News

August 13th, 2010 by mark.farrell

We’ve done it, we’re famous. Well not quite. We have made it into the Oldham Chronicle though.

Take a look at our first piece of press coverage. We are all working extremely hard here at Web Vitality so expect to see us popping up all over the place in the coming year. For now though enjoy our first article:

Not the easiest photo to read which is why I have included a link here: Web Vitality Article.  I posted the above because there is no pretty picture of us at the link location.

Introducing: The SEO Blog Title Generator

August 12th, 2010 by dominic.marsat

Here at Web Vitality we’re constantly striving to push the boundaries of SEO and web development. Although the majority of our actions are performed purely for the benefit of our clients; occasionally we develop philanthropic intentions and provide information and tools which ‘give something back’ to the industry at large: the SEO Blog Title Generator is a prime example of this.

Addressing a Very Real Problem

Putting together carefully researched blogs on the subject of Search Engine Optimisation is a pretty major component of our SEO team’s workload and a great deal of attention is paid to sharing our knowledge to help others to improve their own search engine rankings. Despite our experience in the field, it can admittedly sometimes be a struggle to come up with new and exciting themes and titles for SEO orientated blog posts. In order to put an end to this niggling issue our SEO and Web departments got together and worked tirelessly to create a tool which resolves this problem once and for all. The result of this collaboration is the SEO Blog Title Generator.

This unique and potentially industry-changing tool takes all of the hassle out of coming up with a relevant and interesting SEO blog title- and as we all know; once you have a title, the blog almost writes itself!

Feel free to utilise our SEO Blog Title Generator to your heart’s content- but please don’t use this most powerful of applications for evil…nor hold us accountable if you publish a blog based upon a generated title and find yourself in trouble (which is at least moderately likely):

Challenge 1: No Ranking Checks For One Week

August 8th, 2010 by mark.farrell

It seems that I spend most of my life looking at ranking reports. I suppose you could say I am a slave to the search engine results pages and Im sure my wife would agree. I promise everybody I am not making this up and find myself checking rankings all the time right up until I get in bed. The first thing I do when I wake is reach for my Iphone check my emails and my rankings.

It is like an addiction I just cant stop checking. This shows my dedication to the science of SEO but also shows that I find it impossible to switch myself off. So what is the point of this seemingly useless blog post?

My weekly challenge I have decided that if it is good enough for Mr Matt Cutts to set himself regular challenges I will do the same. The first of my challenges will be to not check any rankings for one week starting from Monday.

What this will do is enable me to concentrate fully on pure SEO without getting caught up and frustrated when I don’t see my rankings jump immediately after making a change.

Im not going to lie I am going to find this task extremely difficult so am going to make the most of the ranking checks I have left. Wish me luck and let the tasks begin.

July 22nd, 2010 by mark.farrell

Ok, so it’s time for another post from myself that will probably make no sense to our readers. Firstly, I would like to apologise for these posts but they are an excellent way for me to get a point across to a client without having to bore them half to death with SEO jargon.

So the topic for today is the excellent Magenta Ink Sticks

No more to say about them except if you feel pity for me, then please link to this page and help me feed my children.

We’re the 11th best Web Design company in the UK ;)

July 6th, 2010 by admin

Our existing clients are so pleased with the service received from us that we have been voted the 11th best Web Design Company in the UK. Further to this, and possibly more important is the fact we are ranked 2nd in the North West, and also 2nd in Manchester.

These figures come from a website called Which Web Design Company, where the rankings are determined by customer reviews, individual projects, and articles amongst many other factors.

Which Web Design is a website which can be easily used to help clients search for a web design company that meets requirements and criteria – whether that’s location, budget or services required.

Out of 4246 companies and counting, the team at Web Vitality are very proud of our position, and as our main form of new customer recruitment comes from word of mouth, we feel this is indicative of our first-class quality of work, an d high attention to detail.

UK Online Spending to Reach 56billion by 2014. Dare you miss out?

July 2nd, 2010 by admin

A traditional shopping trip down the high street isn’t what it used to be. Plenty of stores are closing, and lot’s of names that you grew up with are no longer with us. Stores are trying anything in order to increase sales, yet traditional shopping activity is struggling to meet targets.

Research shows however that online spend is on the increase, with so many online businesses flourising and most of them feeling very confident about the future.

Online spending in the UK is set to reach £56bn by 2014 as the web defies the recession, according to analyst Forrester Research, and internet sales will grow at a yearly rate of six per cent over the next six years, says the survey, which covered more than 4,100 UK consumers as well as large retailers with a web presence.

UK consumers are leading the online shopping trend, with spending reaching around £1,312 per person per year. By comparison, Germans spend £771 a year online and the French spend £693 annually.

“Growing numbers of UK online shoppers and growing online spend per shopper encourage retailers and travel operators to improve their online offerings, which in turn draw more shoppers and higher spending.”

According to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, UK shoppers spent over £4.6bn during the Christmas period last year, an increase of more than 14 per cent year on year – equivalent to £76.67 for every person in the UK.

With nearly 10 million adults shopping online at least once a week, it seems that the web is the place to be pushing your business at the moment. The current downturn promotes accountability and measurability in marketing and online marketing is extremely strong in these sectors. Our analytics can show how many clicks you have received, how many visitors have spent on your site and where they have come from.

We are living at a time where every pound matters. Consumers are more educated than they used to be and use the web to find their retailers and the best prices, hence the increase and success of brands such as moneysupermarket.com and shopthemarket.com.

So, how does this all affect you?! Let’s ask a few basic questions…

  • Are you selling online yet?
  • Does your site generate any income?
  • Is your site being left behind by your competitors?

Now is the time to review your online presence and marketing strategy. Make sure that every penny you spend is effective, so contact us today and we’ll do our very best to make the internet work for you.

Can Google Detect Paid Links?

June 28th, 2010 by mark.farrell

There has always been a lot of debate in the SEO world surrounding this subject so I thought I would throw my spin on it. I believe Google can detect paid links to a degree but not in all cases.

As a provider of SEO services to other peoples websites I would ask yourself is it worth getting penalised for buying links when you are potentially messing around with somebody else’s lively hood.

Imagine how you would explain to a client that their website no longer ranks for their brand name because of some paid links you have purchased on their behalf. Would it not be far more cost effective and more productive to spend a little time writing some content that will attract quality links naturally? After all if your main SEO strategy is to buy links in for clients then you are not really a good SEO and your competitors can also do the same and in effect match you link for link.

By creating editorial links you are hopefully gaining the edge on the competition by obtaining links that they can’t. It may take longer but if dealing with somebody else’s website it’s a much safer option and will help cement your client in the rankings by proving solid harder to duplicate links.

I said at the beginning of this post that I believe Google can detect paid links but not all of them. What I mean is in some cases it is impossible to know if a link has been paid for especially if the particular link isn’t surrounded by any other links, is totally relevant to the page copy and isn’t specifically anchored using blatant keywords. However this could still be a paid link.

It would be unfair of Google in my opinion to penalise a website for buying links especially as in the example above there are probably millions of the above types of links all over the internet that are flying under the radar. If it’s on a huge scale then fair enough some action needs to be taken.

Let’s look at another scenario. If buying links will get your website penalised what’s to stop a competitor buying lots of links on your behalf from lots and lots of really bad websites and having them pointing to your website. This method would be far cheaper for a competing website than paying for SEO services on their own site. If this was the case then there are companies out there who would do this all of the time. How would you talk your way out of that situation when filing for re inclusion?

My conclusion is that I do believe Google have some form of algorithm in place that takes a best guess if a link is a paid link or not so if you are dealing with a clients website I would steer clear of link buying and focus more on top quality content.

P.S Isn’t using Google Adwords content network in effect buying a link???????????

York Lodges & Carnforth Lodges

June 25th, 2010 by mark.farrell

It’s not often we tell people about our latest SEO contracts, in fact we never advertise who we are currently working with from an SEO point. However on this occasion I thought I would give these websites a little plug as I think they are exceptional value and would suit any family wanting a short break in the UK that will not break the bank.

First up is York Lake Lodge situated on the Goosewood Holiday Park. This is an excellent venue for anybody who likes fishing as the lodge is located right in front of its own private fishing lake. If you have children they can run freely in the green surroundings so this really is an excellent choice for a an active family. Situated close to York city centre you will have access to a lot of fun days out including (if your up for it) the ghost trail or the York Dungeon tour. York Lodges really are a good choice for both the family or the loving couple.

Second option is Carnforth Lake Lodge. This option is available of you would like to go a little further up to the infamous Lake District. Most people will head straight to Kendal or Windermere, but for a slightly less commercial option we recommend you head towards The Lakeland Leisure Village where you will find Carnforth Lodges that are extremely luxurious again with excellent views and an all round relaxing atmosphere. Similar to the York lodge, all the facilities at this park cater for familes really well which make this an excellent choice for a short break.
